Popular Post RunnerRN
If any of you remember, I posted a year ago about piece that I had bought and wasn't happy with the way it was stained/painted. I spent months sanding the whole thing down, removing wood filler that was between the top three boards and trying to fill up the gouges in the construction grade lumber. I then tried unsuccessfully to stain with minwax. I just couldn't get an even coverage and avoid orange tones no matter what I did. The more I tried the worse it got. I probably sanded this piece down a few sizes in the process but used it as my learning piece. I tried oil, polyurethane, etc.. but wasn't happy with those either. Then I tried painting the base and using primer which I struggled with. I must have primed and painted multiple times not happy with the result...I was using white paint... not the best for a novice painter, but that was my original plan. I came very close to throwing in the towel or throwing it over my balcony many times, but for some reason I kept trying again and again. I finally found a way to keep it and although it wasn't my original plan or color for the wood, I feel happy enough with it for my first piece. I ended up using a brand that many probably don't use on here, but it eventually worked for me. I used a wood salve by Wise Owl Paint, their stain blocking primer in white and their Chalk synthesis paint in Snow Owl. Then I sealed it with the salve as well. After sealing it, I realized that I was being way to critical about my paint job, because once sealed it looked so much better. Anyway, thanks to all of you for encouraging me along the way. A lot of you said that pine looks best unstained and in this case I think you were right! I learned so much this year all on this piece. So, now I will be ready for something new and it's not going to be white! LOL.
