I mis-spoke the sled is more like 15+ inches from the fence. I would say you could "safely" cut 16 inches. I have a SawStop PCS and I use the fixture below to rest the sled on to start the cut. It keeps it from tipping at the beginning. I got the idea from @gee-dub. 5 Quote
