Popular Post Tom King
We were starting to discuss this in another thread, but I thought it might be better to start another thread to make the subject more easily found by someone searching in the future. Please add comments and pictures that were being added in the What did you do today thread. This is an old Red Devil point driver I found with more than a lifetime supply of points in a cigar box in my Grandfather's house. The points are in little stacks. You retract the spring loaded feed u-shaped heavy wire on the front, drop in a stack or several of points, and replace the feeder over they in the diamond shaped hole on the top of the front. This window has 5/8" wide Muntins, and you can see that the little points stay well in out of the way of putting glazing in. I've found some old windows with lots of points holding in the panes, but I usually just put a couple in. If you need more than that there are probably bigger problems to worry about. A lot don't have any. You just hold it in place against the glass pane, and pull the handle which requires very little force. It loads the spring at the bottom, the handle pulls the keeper above the driver, and the spring lightly slams the driver in to drive the point. I've never broken glass with it. If you ever find one of these in an antique store cheap, buy it. They don't make these any more, but there are some expensive copies.
legenddc
Adding the pictures from the other thread. I picked up this Logan F 500-2 for shooting points in the backs of picture frames. The points are 11/64” wide by 37/64” long.
Tom King
I have done picture frames with the little ones too. Probably more pictures in frames than window glazing with it. The larger points do look like they would be better for frames.
JohnG
The Logan points come in two varieties, flexible and rigid. The flexible ones allow you to bend the tabs back so you can easily change out the picture/artwork. The rigid points need to be removed to change the frame contents.
BillyJack
Use to have to put a lot of glazing points in old windows back when I did rehab. I doubt I’d buy a tool to put points in now a days. Could have used it then.. The city of Independence, Missouri would seize drug house and have us come in and be build it and they would put it on the market for Low income housing
