mpatrick Posted May 14, 2011 Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 I am in the finishing stages of a walnut cabinet, and I have 2 coats of arm-r-seal gloss, 1 coat of semi-gloss. It just doesn't look right to me. My test board looked fine. I am thinking about giving it a coat of satin to knock the gloss down, but I am afraid it will go to far. rmac Posted May 14, 2011 Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 Maybe knock the gloss down with very fine steel wool or a fine scotchbrite pad instead of satin varnish. Since Marc uses Arm R Seal regularly, I suspect you've applied it thicker than he usually does. I prefer a polymerized oil, with the idea I can easily refurbish when needed without stripping.
