Blue Spruce mortising gauge

I got an email today from Blue Spruce advising that they were doing a "limited run" of their Deluxe Mortising Gauge.

I'm all for quality tools, but don't see how this is worth $230.

I guess it is all in what you put a value on.  I don't need one but it does look like it has some nice features and I do like the blue.  Pricing is probably inline with the red guys.

Agreed, it's definitely a nice one. Blue Spruce is owned by Woodpeckers now, so pricing is going to be the same if they offered it.

If Blue Spruce/WP sold #2 pencils, they'd be about $25/each. They'd also be about the nicest pencils I've ever seen in my life.

Yeahhhh.....No way I can justify $230 for a tool that does the same jobs as (at most) 3 common gauges that I can buy for around $10 each, or build in an afternoon for almost nothing.

In their defense:

Small runs cost more. That’s the Red beast’s model. 
 

I’ve never seen another with roller bearings on the fence. I wonder if that makes a difference you could notice. 
 

If I had to make one, I’d like to get paid that, for the time it would take me.

I can't see enough value.  The Veritas dual marking guage is $63.  Now if the blue one had a built in micrometer to set the knife positions...

you can get that but it will be an extra $300

Ok gents, there was an error on that post. It was off by a decimal place. The true price is only $24.99, so I am not sure for how long it looked more expensive.

24.99 is for the replacement blades.

It appears that the link changed, because for some reason they sold out of the gauge.

Seems like a P.T. Barnum moment to me, but good for them.
