Nickthewoodworker
I turned a baseball bat the other day out of an ash log and it turned out good it's just really heavy. Any advise on how to make one that's not so heavy?

Dave H
Just choke up on your swing, and don't throw the bat
CT Proctor
Drill it out and put some cork in it, worked for Sammy Sosa.

suiciedchild
I believe alot of bats are made from ash, as long as your bat is regulation size it should be the correct weight, it's doubtful that this peice of ash is significantly denser than most others, check your sizes and length, after that the only other thing it could be is moisture. suiciedchild
Another thing that you could do to reduce the weight is dish out the top, imagine the bottom of a soda can on the top of the bat , it shaves a little off the bats weight and adds to the speed of the swing ( so I've heard"), you can also try elongating the handle? part to lose some weight. Also make sure your holding it correctly when you swing it or your bat can shatter. Which looks awesome when it happens, just sucks when you realize you just ruined a couple hours worth of work. JMadson Custom Wood
I'm with floorboard, check the dimensions. Specifically the diameter of the handle, length of handle until it starts getting wider, overall length, etc. These can all be tweaked a little to take off some weight.
