nod
Found one on CL recently and might go check it out. Not exaclty looking to pay full price he's asking, but curious what others here think? here's the ad (plus two other planes)
xxdabroxx
The only Millers Falls plane I have is a lot sloppier than my Stanley planes when it comes to adjustment. May just be the examples I have though.

May just be the examples I have though. I would guess it's case by case basis. The smoother I have (no4 equiv) is solid. I've come across a few No7s, but unfortunately they've all had issues of some kind or another. Just surprised to find a clean jointer plane nearby that might be an option. Popular Post collinb
On CL I always back away from sellers who are looking for "serious buyers." It's not a statement used to weed out casual shoppers. It's a bait statement. Though it seems generally uneffective, afaict, it is intended to bring in people who will pay the listed price. My working principle is to stay away from any seller who employs such language.
wdwerker
He is serious about getting top dollar regardless of what it's really worth.
Brendon_t
He's asking for a serious offer only, I'd Offer him $75 and see what happends.
CStanford
I had a Millers Falls plane once and it had a remarkable amount of backlash in the blade adjustment mechanism.
xxdabroxx
I had a Millers Falls plane once and it had a remarkable amount of backlash in the blade adjustment mechanism. That is exactly what mine has. Takes a dozen turns to start moving the blade. I use it for a scrub plane though so it isn't too terrible in my application. CStanford
Yep. Really bad. I thought mine must have been an exception but I've heard this about these planes before.
nod
Thank for the feedback all. I agree Collin, he's trying to weed out the riff raff. And at the same time he can't seem to post pics. We've emailed a couple times and I've asked him for pics, but they dont' seem to come. Sounds like he's having technical issues, but anyways, I'd like to save myself a trip if it's not worth checking out. he's only 10-15 minutes away, but if there's no chance of me getting a deal on this, I'm not interested. If the MF planes are as troublesome as others are saying here, it's a definitely no at this price.

Insert eye roll here. => He's asking for a serious offer only, I'd Offer him $75 and see what happends. That's about what I was thinking. Maybe up to 85, but now with some of these comments, I may just let it go all together.
Stobes21
I have one I picked up off eBay a couple weeks ago for a bit over $50 with shipping. There was some surface rust but it cleaned up nice with some basic rust remover and a scotch brute pad. I haven't sharpened the iron yet to start cutting but the plane is nice and solid and I'm happy with it so far. The backlash is certainly more than my new lie nielsons but not unreasonable. Certainly not a dozen turns.
