Tom Cancelleri
There's currently a wildfire that's been going on in Shenandoah national park since Saturday. It's growing at an insane rate of 1000 acres per day and it up to 5600 acres. I smelled the smoke at my house yesterday while standing on my back deck. That could have all been lumber! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2016/04/21/smoke-from-the-shenandoah-wildfire-could-waft-into-the-d-c-region-today/
Chet
With the drought we have had some monster fires here in California the last few years. Some of them 100,000's of acres. Sounds like yours has some rain on the way. That should help.
Chestnut
Last year around the 4th the smoke from the Canadian forest fires made for some surreal weeks. Most of ND and MN, and I'm sure Canada and other areas, were covered in smoke so thick that perfectly clear days seemed like they were overcast. Brendon_t
The last 5 years have shown some monster fires out here. Last year I drove from la to tahoe via 395. We passed through 3 major active fires. Once in tahoe, the smoke was so thick you couldn't see across the lake.
Tom King
I can't tell from the articles exactly where in the Park it is. I've hiked almost every trail in SNP, and spent many nights backpacking there. When I was involved with our Scout Troop, we took a 10 day backpacking trip somewhere every Easter break, and SNP was used a number of weekends every year as warmups for the big trip. I feel like I know it like our back yard.
