..Kev Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 And what will this be? I figured you were sniffing for that question so, I'll go first.. Quote

wtnhighlander Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 And what will this be? Contemplation bench? Quote
Boatworks Today Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Yup, "A place to plant your ass and ponder the choices you've made in life" gets my vote.. 1 Quote
Eric. Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 Since I completely lack the artistic sense that Marc talked about in one of the videos, I went about preparing for the carving a bit differently. I need training wheels...definitive lines to work to and from. The holes are a great idea but I feared inadequate for me. So I built a template jig and routed the profile on the outer couple inches or so of each side. This way I could work from these lines toward the center and I'd be able to see exactly where I needed to go. Quote
..Kev Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 Super idea! I suppose I should have picked up what this was going to be. I saw this after working a very long shift.. Quote
Eric. Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Time for some carving, turbo style... And some shaving... And some rasping... And some scooping... And some more shaving... And far more sanding than I'm comfortable with... F#@%!^& worms! No going back now... Has anyone noticed my other problem, aside from that ^^^ one? Quote
Freddie Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Nice thread eric, good to see ya back at it again! Quote
Freddie Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Im going to say your other problem is that youre still smoking 1 Quote
Eric. Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 A big problem indeed but not the one I was alluding to. I'm glad you missed it, though. Quote
bobcrosley Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Has anyone noticed my other problem, aside from that ^^^ one? Are those legs tapered, or straight? (I'm taking this as a personal challenge now...) Quote
Eric. Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 The legs are tapered with the slightest curve added. It's just an illusion in the third to last pic that makes them look straight. You're getting colder. Quote
TerryMcK Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Looking good so far Eric and great idea with the routing template. I've just spent the last 10 mins going back and forth in the thread obviously not observing. Go on put us out of our misery. Quote
Eric. Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Some people will get their undies twisted over it more than others. Me? It's all I see and it must be fixed. I have to admit I'm happy to see no one has noticed it yet. Hopefully it won't matter in the end. Observe... Quote
Freddie Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Color matching? Come on bro lighten up! Quote
Eric. Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 You got it. Lighten up? Yeah that's the problem, ain't it? Dye is in my future, unfortunately. Quote
Freddie Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 I guess it wouldnt kill you to dye Quote
TerryMcK Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Ahhhh. I would call that a feature. Quote
Eric. Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 Outrageous. But whatcha gonna do? Since I bought it as a "turning blank" and it was covered with wax, I gave the plug pieces a nice cooking on the beach for some shrinkage in case this chunk was still green. Just in case... Quote
..Kev Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 Rockler has some smaller blocks that are much cheaper.. 1 1/2 square and 3" long for about 7 bucks I think, Quote
Eric. Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 Not my Rockler...that was the smallest chunk they had...one of two of the same size. That's okay, I'll use every last scrap of it eventually. Quote
