wouldwurker
Dio Segway, I know I'm in the vast minority when I say this, but Tony Martin is still my favorite Sabbath frontman. Sabbath Stones on Tyr...probably one my favorites (with Heaven and Hell, and the Ozzy classics)
wtnhighlander
Cmon, though. How much Malmsteen can anyone actually listen to? Vai gets bonus points for transcribing for Zappa, and dueling Ralph Maccio in Crossroads. Not dueling Macchio, dueling himself. I understand Steve played both parts. wtnhighlander
And now to derail this entire thread..... What does everyone think about Dan Fogelburg?
Eric.
Love the guy. He gets a bad rap because most people only know his soft rock sappy stuff they hear on the radio. Netherlands and Souvenirs are a couple of my all time favorite albums. And others. Innocent Age, Windows and Walls, High Country Snows, Phoenix...all killer. wtnhighlander
Like River of Souls? Little more ethereal than some of the other stuff, but the sounds really flow.
Eric.
I like almost everything he did do one degree or another. But like most artists from his generation, the early stuff was the best stuff, IMO. The last album he released before he died was really good. His cover of the title track, Full Circle, was great. And totally depressing given the fact that he knew he was dying when he recorded it.
AstroDave
Dan Fogelberg... I had no idea he died in 2007... I own Souvenirs and Twins Son of Different Mothers in vinyl...
Eric.
Go give Souvenirs a spin in the new shop, Dave. Play As the Raven Flies first. And have your mind blown.
AstroDave
Guess I need to go buy a turntable Still have a ton of vinyl mostly my wife's. We met when she worked a record store in the 70's.
AstroDave
Here you go... found this when I was reminding myself of Mr Fogleberg... https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play?p=dan+fogelberg+as+the+raven+flies&vid=f512bb86b36032f51108b25480fc688a&l=10%3A44&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DVN.608042815444943037%26pid%3D15.1&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdpFcNahs8No&tit=Dan+Fogelberg+As+The+Raven+Flies+Live+76&c=4&sigr=11b8rpva8&sigt=118iklfuh&ct=p&age=0&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av%2Cm%3Asa&&tt=b

Llama
Not dueling Macchio, dueling himself. I understand Steve played both parts. Ry Cooder played parts of the duel as well. Funny thing is it took Vai a few takes to be able to mess up his parts enough to please the director.
wouldwurker
Are you telling me that wasn't Ralph Maccio playing the guitar??? What's next, that wasn't really Michael J Fox singing and playing in Back to the Future???

Llama
He was playing, but they had to speed it up... Well, playing isn't the right word. He had his fingers on the fretboard.
TerryMcK
LOL I think I'd guessed that much Mel. As a guitarist he makes a better actor. OK now onto blues. What does everyone think of Joe Bonamassa? I think he's superb but his singing is a little like listening to Kermit or Bill Gates.
