Popular Post mds2
My son has been doing karate for a little over a year and he is starting to accumulate belts. So he needed a place to display them. We found a design on google and I tweaked it a little bit. Close up of the logo for his dojo. I carved this with my shapeoko 2: lots of laps: Time lapse of bending top piece: All joints are lap joints and I wanted them all to be perfect. I looked at different kerf makers to use but in the end I made the simplest jig ever. My "kerfmaker" is a scrap piece of wood with a screw in it. You adjust the screw to the kerf of the blade, and it takes some test cuts to get it dialed in. Adjusting the screw out makes a tighter joint, and adjusting the screw in makes a looser joint. Here are a few really short video that show it in action. edit: I LOVE that Instagram links show up now! Brendon_t
I love the top rail. I'm not sure what the correct name for this design element is but it looks very old world japanese.
shaneymack
Very cool. That is a great idea! I need to make on of these for my son who is in Judo, he would love it. Must be nice to have a little cnc to do carvings and such to add little details like that to a project. Nice work !

It is really nice for things like this. The machine was a gift from a friend who didn't have room in his shop. I've figured out a way to take a picture with my iphone, then through a couple different softwares I can create cnc files. All for free. wdwerker
That belt display would be beautiful built from padauk. It would give you the rich reddish orange color .
