Brendon_t
Has anybody had this experience? I finished the install of the leg vise last night. It was super smooth until about 2" before closing then dragged. I left it figuring I would troubleshoot it today. Now, the hand wheel is completely seized up about 1" from closed and I physically can not turn it more than an inch in either direction. Very strange.. Immortan D
Do not force it out. Either remove the screws from the acme nut or from the handle to the chop, then remove the vise screw and fix your alignment issue. Luckily the threads are not already damaged.
Brendon_t
The acme nut is installedon the screw which is almost closed. The only way to get it off seems to be driving out the pin that holds the screw onto the handle. That still leaves the nut stuck on the shaft. Immortan D
I mean the nut attached to the leg, where the vise screw exits. Unscrew it from the leg. Edit: you did install the nut on the inside part of the leg, didn't you? Or you installed it on the front?
Brendon_t
The nut is installed per instructions on the back of the leg, the front of the leg has a thick washer thing. If I unscrew the nut from the leg, it will just spin with the wheel keeping the hardware stuck to the leg.
Immortan D
Ok, then unscrew it from the leg and you will be able to remove the vise screw,
Brendon_t
Where am I lost. The screw is attached to the handle, the nut is stuck on the shafts. Neither one can fit through the 1.5" hole in the leg..

Brendon_t
Yes ,that would be the goal, the problem is that that nut is seized onto the screw shafts. It will not turn on the screw
Immortan D
If you remove the screws that attach that nut to the leg, you will be able turn the nut and remove the vise screw. Take that for granted.
Brendon_t
I'll give er a shot. No dice. I released the nut from the leg and it is securely locked on the screw
Immortan D
WD40. If it doesn't come out, your threads are already screwed or the nut is f$%& up bud.
Brendon_t
The screw has only been run through the nut three or four times. I'm going to hit it with some penetrating oil and let it sit.
Immortan D
Good luck! If it doesn't work try tapping your chop with a mallet... and get your sledge hammer and chainsaw ready, just in case
Tpt life
Remind us, criss-cross?
Brendon_t
Yes, brand new glide system and criss cross retro system. I hit it with some good penetrating oil before leaving for a BBQ. I've got a few turns out of it after but only about an inch of screws worth. I'm pretty disappointed at this point. I suppose anything with that much hype is bound to disappoint. wtnhighlander
You might try a little heat to the nut. I've seen siezed lug nuts break loose after having a candle flame applied for about a minute.
Brendon_t
Thanks for the reminder Ross, I may have to ice the shaft and heat the nut. Is just a bummer to be having to do that. I'm going to give the BC guys a call tomorrow and see what they recommend.

I suppose anything with that much hype is bound to disappoint. That BC screw is a precision screw, that means twice the threads of a regular vise screw. And looks like it's not zinc or nickel plated. I guess all that means extra care has to be taken to align it properly before applying forza brutta

Llama
I have an idea. If you loosen the bolts up holding the rear nut, are you able to get any movement? It is possible you have some binding. By loosening the nut, you can test this.
