With the return of Shaney, the family is whole again I am going to England and Scotland next year and figured if we hadn't heard from Graham by then I was going to find him while I was there. Might still look him up to check out his shop and buy him a pint. That would be horrifying...some half-drunk bearded American staring into your window at 11PM with a case of Budweiser in one hand and a suitcase in the other. LOL
Popular Post prov163
Trust me, it's just as horrifying if I'm sober. And now you're telling me I have to drink Bud instead of PBR? May not go now.

Popular Post Cliff
I am a retard-hardcore liberal. I think our society should provide for those that can't do it for themselves. That we must evolve to think about what is best for the human race, not for ourselves and our bank accounts. But if someone on the street asks me for money, it ruins my day and I want to scream at them. I have no idea how that is possible to be so completely opposing in my viewpoints. Actually maybe I do. It's that someone asked me. I'll donate often to things or causes. I donate to the DCCC. But then they sent me 3 emails per day asking for money and I unsubscribed and now they have to rely on me randomly remembering that I care. None of that had a point, certainly not a political one. Just that I hate being bothered. My theory of GoFundMe is that there is always a system to benefit the needy - and while there are probably 95-98% utilizing it in a completely legit and moral way - there will always be that 2-5% that is taking advantage of it. Like others mentioned, welfare and social security disability are examples of this. They serve a purpose, but some will abuse. Just how humans work, and sadly it costs more to track those people down and enforce things than you lose through fraud. Point: humans suck.

I used to donate to the Nature Conservancy. I think they spent more money printing fliers/pamphlets/magazines and mailing them to me than my monthly donation. There was something especially off-putting about the amount of paper they mailed out when I donated to plant more trees. I'm still looking for a really good tree-planting/re-forestation foundation/non-profit. Anyone have one to recommend? For anyone planning their giving, I like to check the Charity Navigator to get a sense of efficiency. They'll show you what percentage of the charity income actually gets spent on doing the work you're supporting, vs marketing or administration. It's certainly not perfect, but I like having some sense.
Guest
What about gofundme's close relative Patreon? Do you donate just for the value received? Or do you give to content producers' Patreon campaigns because you assume the content is a financial burden and you want to help? If a content producer were already netting, say $200,000+ per year from other revenue streams would you still give? I am curious how people feel. Patreon is a newer, "voluntary" revenue model for folks. it sort of implies that the recipient is in a tough spot financially, and some content producers are certainly bootstrapping. But there are the top x% who still use it. I find it a little bothersome but not sure why. I guess I am old school and would rather pay a fair fee for a service without questioning my morality or the morality of the recipient. Patreon has this martyrdom thing I don't like. Mike I give to content producers on Patreon because I enjoy the content produced. I see it as an alternative to directv in many ways which I spend a heck of a lot more to have. I view them as self employed business folks who provide a service just like I do to my clients and I am more than happy to support them. I hope the folks I support are making $200,000+ per year and as long as the content produced is the quality I expect and enjoy I will continue to pay for their service. I wish a couple other folks that I have learned from would start Patreon pages so I could throw a few bucks their way as well.
