They say they are tight, but nail them anyway.
BillyJack
Maybe as a precaution. I will sometimes drop a few nails in just in case the glue fails....
Coop
Out of curiosity, how do they get their compressed air without electricity. Spanky took my wife and I to a Mennonite community and one of their stores had a cash register that showed the total of the purchase in lights. Tpt life
The Amish mill here has a wood fired steam boiler that drives leather belts that run the machinery. The Amish framers here use gasoline motors to run compressors.
freedhardwoods
I have been to dozens of Amish communities around the country These are by far the most liberal. Some use big diesel engines to run rotary air compressors and hydraulic pumps. Others use the diesels to run big generators and their shops are totally electric. It depends who your Bishop is as to what rules you can get away with (breaking). Many have smart phones and laptops. I used to have a lot of respect for these people. After a few incidents involving me over the last couple years, I don't any more.
roscoewoodworker
Couldn't properly cut dovetail joints on drawers even be glued without clamps (or pin nails)? Seems like if joints fit properly they could almost be assembled and just let to sit without clamps. I've never done this but though about it. BillyJack
They can but a few pins don't mean anything. It only matter if the dovetails are so sloppy the nails and glue are needed to support the drawer so it doesn't fall apart... Now let's imagine you made 12" wide dovetail drawers and let the parts sit a few weeks and few are now warped. Do you glue walk away or would you put clamps on or a couple pins to assure there will be no movement while they dry?
