wtnhighlander
Searching DIY Spindle Sander on Youtube returns a number of results, but frankly, I can't see them being any less expensive than buying one, unless you have some unusual feature reauirement. Need and extra-long spindle, something like that?
BillyJack
I was looking at the ridgid. Concerned a cheap HF would only go out after time...

G Ragatz
A friend of mine has the Ridgid and has been happy with it. I have had a Wen for ~ 3 years, and am satisfied with it. It doesn't see a ton of use, but does a good job sanding. Dust collection is mediocre. It's a spindle-only - no belt like the Ridgid. Table is smaller and doesn't tilt - but it costs just more than half as much as the Ridgid.
BillyJack
I may just make a drill press table today and see how it works for now. Considering the WEN portable as cheap as it is...thx..
gee-dub
Long gone now but, I did have a line that looped over one of the handles, ran through a pulley and down to a board on the floor that I pushed down with my foot. Quill return spring brought it back. Worked but, pretty awkward for the benefit it supplied.
BillyJack
Somebody had a drill hooked to there drill press and worked but I don't want to wear out ge drill press to save a dollar...I'll see how it operates just on the spindle... RichardA
I have the grizzly knock off of the Ridgid, it's done good for more than 4 years. I got it on sale with a 20% extra coupon, I think it was $149.00.
wtnhighlander
I have the Rigid sander, and its a decent machine, but if you don't need the belt feature, the HF sander is likely just as good or better. Last I checked, HF at least used a cast iron table.
