MacemanD
I've never owned a tablesaw before. I'm looking at the SawStop PCS, between the 1.75hp and 3.0hp models. I'm worried about disturbing the neighbors. Would I be better off with the 1.75hp, or does it matter when it comes with how much noise they make? JohnG
Doesn’t really matter. On a cabinet saw, the blade spinning and the blade hitting the wood are what makes more noise. On a jobsite saw, the motor is LOUD. My 3hp Sawstop is much quieter than the jobsite saw I had previously.
wtnhighlander
Any dust collection you employ will be louder than the saw, much of the time.
BonPacific
Either PCS will probably be one of the quieter power tools in your shop. I definitely recommend going for the 3HP if you can swing it.
curlyoak
If your saw gets a lot of use, you will regret if you don't get the 3.0. The only tool that I have that is too loud is my planer. The neighbors have requested that I run my planer after 8am and before 9pm. All the other tools do not bother them. When you try to rip some 8/4 hardwood is when you'd be wishing you bought the 3.0
drzaius
My 3HP is much quieter than my old 1.5HP Jet contractor saw. I don't believe you would notice the difference in noise levels between a 3HP and 1.5HP motor in the same saw. Get the 3HP model if your budget can handle it.
MacemanD
Thank you everyone for your replies! The 3HP Sawstop it will be! I just need to figure out how I can make space, as well as getting the hookup for 230v.
RichardA
Do you have an electrician friend, that likes a beer and some company now and then? If not talk with a local electric company boss, and see what he could suggest. Perhaps a good employee of his needs a little legal side work to help him through a struggle he might be having. Or Full legal..
