danbell78
Looking to paint up a 'Barn Quilt' to hang out my my Dad's farm shed. What is going to be the best material to paint this onto? I was thinking MDO, but not sure how MDO does outdoors? If I do use MDO any ideas on wrapping the edge so that it looks better and sheds water from the edge better? I was thinking either a PVC brick mold or maybe a steel roof/siding trim piece?
BillyJack
You just need to seal all edges. It’s all in the preparation..

Tpt life
Google glue sizing. Watered carpenter glue is often used to seal fiber edges.
BillyJack
You can seal it with glue, mine I seal with paint..Only thing I used wa# latex caulk to fill and voids in the plywood. https://www.woodworkingtalk.com/threads/flower-boxes.227500/post-2183715
Tom King
MDO was first used, and still is, for exterior signs. A long time ago, I used to go to a sign shop to buy it. That was the only place around here that kept any.
Popular Post danbell78
Follow up. Here is the finished product hung on the over the garage door for all to see. I ended up not doing any edge/frame, just MDO and a few layers of good exterior paint. Hopefully it lasts a while.
Coop
@danbell78, that’s a neat deal and very well done. I’ve never heard of a barn quilt. Is there a story behind the design and application?
