gee-dub Posted September 24, 2025 Report Posted September 24, 2025 I use a spray bottle of mineral spirits for a lot of things around the shop. I have tried all sorts of plastic bottles (the ZEP sprayers seem to last the best) but they all eventually fail. Obviously there are products made to handle certain chemicals and those that are not. My question is, does anyone have a product or a source that sells a hand spray bottle that is spec'd to handle mineral spirits and the like? The pros often are generally familiar with products that we enthusiastic hobbyists just don't come into contact with by accident. Anyway, hoping for a nudge in the right direction. Otherwise I will just keep burning out a couple of bottle a year ;-) Quote
Ron Swanson Jr. Posted September 24, 2025 Report Posted September 24, 2025 My only thought is to look for a chemical product that's somewhat similar to MS and repurpose that bottle? Windex is a terrible example but maybe there's something out there that's a little closer chemically. Quote
Tom King Posted September 24, 2025 Report Posted September 24, 2025 I have an old one that you charge with an air hose that sprays WD40. I've had it for at least forty years and it still works fine. I'll see if I can find a link. It sprays a nice fine mist. Mine is a much smaller model of these: https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/56BA3AC2-817A-4180-ACB8-359FA9FC8525?ingress=2&lp_context_asin=B005POGY74&visitId=b43e43cf-4e40-4d49-ab5c-eeaab98780c1&store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandLogo_sto&ref_=ast_bln The search term you need is "solvent sprayer". 2 Quote

I've got one of those and they last forever. Quote
Mark J Posted September 25, 2025 Report Posted September 25, 2025 OK! But now I'm curious, @gee-dub, how do you use MS spray? Quote

Primarily I use it as a lube when I "finish the finish" by rubbing out a top coat. Since I have it handy in a cabinet by the sink I will also use it to clean up things. I will use it to remove wax from things I have waxed that now need a bit of maintenance before re-waxing. I also keep small containers of naphtha and other chemicals on hand (but not in sprayers). I do a lot of things in the shop besides woodworking but things are mostly restricted to honey-do's. Certain chemicals allow me to remove adhesives, clean hard water stains off glass, prep random "garden art" for repair (don't ask ). 3 Quote
Mark J Posted September 26, 2025 Report Posted September 26, 2025 I would think that spraying MS would put a lot of vapor in the air. Maybe this is not a problem, or do you wear a charcoal filter, or something? 1 Quote
gee-dub Posted September 26, 2025 Author Report Posted September 26, 2025 I just use a hand spray bottle. The liquid being dispensed is more droplets than it is a mist I do wear a respirator generally whenever I’m using finishing products. 2 Quote
Popular Post dwilliam Posted April 24 Popular Post Report Posted April 24 You’ll want to step up from consumer bottles to true solvent-rated sprayers. Look for HDPE bottles with Viton or PTFE seals, that’s what survives mineral spirits long-term . Good options people use: Harris Chemical Resistant Spray Bottle (pro-grade trigger) Chemical Guys Heavy Duty Sprayer Also consider pump-up metal sprayers, they last far longer than triggers for solvents. 3 Quote
gee-dub Posted April 24 Author Report Posted April 24 Thanks. I've been using one of these for the last 6 or 7 months with no degradation. 2 Quote
