Popular Post Tom King Posted April 21 Popular Post Report Posted April 21 This lake house just came on the market. This is one of the 20 or so that you have to drive through our place to get to. I haven't been down in there for years, but it looks like they bought two of the small 1970's houses, tore them down, and built this on the two lots. https://www.lakehomes.com/north-carolina/lake-gaston/161-paradise-drive-henrico-nc-27842-lhrmls-03615486 2 3 Quote
legenddc Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 I mean, if you're paying for it, I'll move. I just looked through the pictures and there are some unique features in that house. The awning over the shower door and window is odd. They seem to love printed fabrics between all of the curtains and cabinet coverings. Quote
Popular Post Beechwood Chip Posted April 21 Popular Post Report Posted April 21 All that space, but where do you put the wood shop? Do you need to build a separate shop building? 2 1 Quote
Popular Post Tom King Posted April 21 Author Popular Post Report Posted April 21 If you can settle for four bedrooms, any one of them looks big enough for a wood shop. But I'm less than a quarter mile away, so you could just pay me to do your woodworking. 1 6 Quote

Popular Post Tom King Posted April 22 Author Popular Post Report Posted April 22 The second house over to the right of this one is my 1983 house that I built and sold. At the time, it was one of the largest houses on the lake. It's 32x52 with three floors including the daylight basement and has a timber framed porch with tall 12x12 treated "columns", plus an oversized two car garage. That house is completely dwarfed by this one and the one on the other side of it. This house costs over ten times what we paid for our rental house, in the same development that was considered a "teardown" when we bought it. Ours now has probably the largest private sandy beach and sandy bottomed swimming area on the lake. Rentals will have ours paid for in a few years. I don't believe the short season here would ever pay for this one as a rental. I wonder if my houses built in here will get torn down for huge ones in the future. A couple in other developments near here already have been. We wouldn't even want a house with rooms this large. 4 Quote
Popular Post DerekMPBS Posted April 22 Popular Post Report Posted April 22 Funny, the text description says board and batten siding, but under Exterior Features it says the siding is vinyl. I wouldn't expect vinyl siding on a $2.5 million home. 3 Quote
Tom King Posted April 30 Author Report Posted April 30 That one is looking more like a good deal. Here's another one in the next development that I just saw while looking over Marketplace: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3406787306170305/? 1 Quote
Popular Post Tom King Posted May 1 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 1 That's a pretty common thing here and that's the maximum size allowed now for a single lot. I'm intending on building a big version on the right side end of our point in a few years. It will be in the shade of Oak trees until early afternoon. I have enough other pieces of land here that I can deed myself the right to a boat slip for each to be able to build one with extra boat slips, so the deck above could handle a small crowd. I also want a section to sit the catamaran on that goes up out of the water and lowered in below the water level to be able to walk around on it to launch and land the cat. I have more projects in my head than I will probably ever get done though. If I hired someone else to do them we'd be broke and in debt. There are a number of different manufacturers for the boat lift platforms. I haven't seen one on the lake here yet, but it would be the ideal way to keep the Hobie 21. https://www.rjmachine.ca/boat-lifts/hidden-beam-wet-slip-lifts/ 3 Quote
