Hello from the Emerald City

Hi everyone,

Since I've gone ahead and barged in with a question already, I need to quickly get this intro up so I don't look like a total noob.

I live in Seattle, where we are slowly renovating an old house, which constitutes most of the wood I encounter. The old wood is awesome, even if it makes the batteries on the drills run out really fast.

I love wood. Love tools. They don't always love me back (ask to see my x-ray from the belt sander accident sometime). I wander the aisles at Wood Craft for fun, lingering longest with the exotic woods. I have no idea how to build anything, and only know slightly more than that about refinishing.

I'm mostly here to learn through osmosis and marvel at what skilled woodworkers can do. I hope that's OK.

Welcome, Jill! I love wood, too but for a LOOOONG time, decades, I limited it to refinishing various things, floors, tables, chairs, trim.... Then I tried making a little gate, what a joke, I knew nothing about how to build anything. But, that was the kick start that led me to take an introductory woodworking class, then an intermediate class, then turning classes, then joining a turning group and a women's woodworking group and attending turning symposia . . . I now have an actual shop (my half of the garage) and dare I say have become a woodworker. It is my passion!

I highly recommend taking classes to learn what all these big machines can do and to learn how to use them correctly and safely. Emphasis on safety. It will open up a whole world for you.
