Rick A McQuay
==> but a sharp chef's knife will slice bread just fine and much better than a serrated edge Have you actually tried the experiment? I've done it many times on homemade bread. The trick is turn the loaf on it's side and start on the softer side crust because straight knives don't handle hard crust very well. Once you are through the crust, the rest is no problem but you need a sharp knife. If you can slice a tomato you should be able to slice bread. My knife needs sharpening anyway, good excuse to do it and make a video to prove it can be done.
Trip
==> prove it can be done ==> but you need a sharp knife No one says it can't be done... Seriously, no proof needed... It's just that, in some cases, a serrated knife is more efficient at a given task...
derekcohen
If you want a cheap, but serious sharpening system - costs about 10 cents - try this: http://www.inthewoodshop.com/WoodworkTechniques/The%2010%20Cent%20Sharpening%20System.html Regards from Perth Derek
