missioninwood Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 Interested in the Laguna 14-12 Band Saw but have become concerned by what appears to be a non-standard 115" length blade. For example, Woodcraft only stocks Laguna brand 115" blades. What are thoughts on this being an issue? The 14-12 is so new there is limited info on the intranets. Thanks all, miw Quote
blkdiamond Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 You can get the Laguna brand, but Woodcraft also carries the Timber Wolf blades in 115". My 1/4" is Laguna, and my 1/2" is a Timber Wolf. I also ordered a custom length 3/4" Woodslicer from Highland Woodworking. Quote
williaty Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 It's a non-issue. There's a LARGE number of places online and in most medium to large cities that buy bandsaw blades as GIANT reels of blade material and then cut and weld to your specs when you buy a blade. Just ask them for a 115" long one and you're GTG. 1 Quote
woodieboy Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 Try to google custom welded band saw blades. Quote
dwacker Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 Check your local yellow pages for a saw service. Off the shell blade are problematic anyways. You can usually buy custom blades for less anyways. Quote
jdbrown1998 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Isn't a resaw king the top blade anyways? All the stuff that I have said is that it is an excellent saw. I really want to get one so I will look forward to your review if you get one! Quote

missioninwood Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 Wow, I saw the 14-Twelve today at the local WC and I am impressed. I spoke with a few people who shared my initial concern about the blade length but based on the feedback above I am going to pull the trigger. Combined with my last tool purchase--the Jet JJP-12--I will be all set to prepare the lumber for my work. Thank you all for your posts. miw! Quote
blkdiamond Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 After waiting almost a month for the custom length 3/4" Woodslicer to come in I was finally able to get it installed in my Laguna 1412 today and I am thrilled to report that it works great! Quote

blkdiamond Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Pretty smooth and even thickness cuts? Yes. At this point all I have cut is a 5" wide piece of hard-maple and the cut was smoother than my 1/2" Timber-wolf blade. Now this may be that the Woodslicer is superior to the Timber-wolf instead of a comparison between 1/2" and 3/4". The cut with the Wood-slicer also felt like it was easier to push the wood through. My only complaint was that I had to wait almost a month for the custom-length blade to be made and shipped. Quote
Markb Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Just took delivery on a new 14/12 and cannot get a Timberwolves 115" blade to go on the saw. Tension is off, tension wheel adjusted all the way to max looseness. What am I missing ? Quote
Mark J Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Try another 115" blade? Maybe the first blade is mislabeled? Quote
pkinneb Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 I agree with @Mark J rule out the blade length being the issue by measuring the blade. Me second stop would be to watch the wheel on the saw and insure its moving freely and nothing is keeping it from getting to where you need it. Quote
Popular Post Chet Posted January 25 Popular Post Report Posted January 25 I don't know what causes this but sometimes after loosening the tension you may find that you need to grab the spokes on the wheel and pull down and the wheel will lower more. 3 Quote

Do this. I have to do it all the time with both of my Laguna saws. 4 Quote
JustAnotherGuy Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 You can check with Metal Sawing Technology or Sawblade.com! They custom-make blades according to length. I am pretty sure MST ships nationwide. Quote
