RichardA
I'm not primarily a hand tool person but, I'm getting the bug.. I know the feeling way to well! I started with 3 basic planes, Block, #4, and #5! Now by the numbers #2, #3 #4,#4, #5, #7, #27,#75,#71,#130.... I hate an obsession that I actually use! Dewald Swanepoel
I'm not primarily a hand tool person but, I'm getting the bug.. OK, time for the DDDQ (Deefstes' Daily Dumb Question): What are those two planes in the middle? They seem to have a very shallow blade angle - much like that of a block plane. Eric.
Low angle jack and low angle smoother.
Dewald Swanepoel
Low angle jack and low angle smoother. Thanks. Mind if I ask what the idea behind the low angle is? I've only just figured out that a plane is not a plane is not a plane and that there are jack planes and smoothing planes . Now it seems you get them in different angles as well. nateswoodworks
I have the same shoulder plane and smoother, love them both. I had been wanting a LA smoother for a while but the placement of the blade adjustment meant I wouldn't be able to adjust on the fly, the #164 solved that; it's now my most used plane-I never thought something would knock my Bedrock 604 from that pedestal. Used it last night to remove the ink stamp from stud lumber....4 quick passes and vamoose! I see a LN show-and-tell thread in the near future.....
