Chet
I am new to the bandsaw. Looking at videos and articles on the technique of resawing, some show the piece that is being cut to size on the right of the blade and some show it to the left or against the fence. Which is the better or safer way or is it a matter of personal preference?
Brendon_t
Personally, if I screw up and that blade pops through a 1/8th" vaneer, I want it away from my hands. for that reason, I keep the thinner material on the fence side of the blade Leaving the bulk on the outside. This also gives repeatable thickness without adjusting anything
cstandi1
I do the opposite with the bulk against the fence. This way I always have a straight perfectly jointed face against the fence without having to run the board across the jointer every time. It is fair to note that I don't cut a lot of veneers so I have less of a worry about cutting through a thin piece.
ColinF
I run mine with the bulk away from the fence, less of a safety factor more of a less math factor
wdwerker
I run thin to the fence and flatten the face w the drum sander before I cut another thin piece off.
