chrisphr
Bought some cherry plywood online from Home Depot that suspiciously looks like walnut. Pretty attractive stuff actually, but I don't think it is cherry. Here is a picture of it dry fit in the blanket chest.
wtnhighlander
Color certainly looks un-cherry-ish. The grain pattern is different from any walnut OR cherry that I am familiar with. Looks like the veneer was sliced from a very narrow tree, might explain the stripes.
Eric.
It's walnut, no question. Well done, HD!

estesbubba
Wipe some mineral spirits on it and you'll really be able to tell

mat60
I'm not shore what the heck it is but I buy allot of 1/4 in cherry plywood good on one face and that looks like the back side of my cabinets...
wnaziri
Sure looks like walnut to me. Thank god it is only dry fit and not glued.
chrisphr
I bet it was both.Sadly, they'd be almost right about the latter ?. I was confused when I opened the box, but I convinced myself that maybe the color difference is rotary peel process or a darker cherry log (with its chocolate color and darker brown highlights... duh). I only became certain when I hit it with some mineral spirits...
