because she knows first hand what happens when wood gets out of control.

You bet Mike, Acer Cletus ("Acer") contains a ton of stress. The wood just lays around not being used, building up stress. It's crap, nobody likes it. Sorry it's the truth. Take note of her in the last picture. As the Acer begins to relieve its stress, the hands (push sticks) push the wood away, natural instinct is to lean back and shield the face from the shower of wood.

Safety, safety, safety, can't be stressed enough.

i know where my balls are, in a jar on my wife's nightstand, colin, quit buying stuff and MAKE SOMETHING!

Now that it's getting warm out -- soon.  Very soon.  Besides -- for me it's evening work.  I have a day job.

Probably the first thing is a wood floor repair for a friend.  He put in a hardwood floor but got one of those oak registers that sits on top.  He doesn't like tripping over it.  So I'm looking to (1) router out the flooring and trim the register edges square to make it sit flush.   OR (2) shape the hole to a uniform shape and cut a piece of oak to fit it.  of course I'll use the router to put air vents into the wood.  Maybe (3) build a slotted register like the store-bought one, but having a little more solid construction.  I'm afraid of what will be left after I trim down the purchased one.  Would rather give my friend something pretty solid.  Wish I had a 5" x 10" cast iron register.  Then I'd just trim out the hole and drop it in.

Anyway, I'm working on a hall table for wifey.  Right now I'm designing the templates for it.

Just curious ... is there a freebie 2d/3d CAD package for woodworking out there?  I generally just use Visio and do it in sections.  Visio at least gives me a precise scale and 1:1 printing though it's certainly not CAD.

I had a set of those 35 years ago and they sucked then !

As I look at it, it will certainly get in the way of pushing the wood through.  But I'm going to hang onto it, at least for a while.  That spring steel has got to have some good use. For $2 it's not worth the time trying to get rid of it (unless I thrift it).
