Popular Post Tom Cancelleri
A cajon is a box drum with 3mm Baltic birch tapas that you sit on to play. My niece had said she wanted one, so I made one from curly maple with a crystal epoxy casting resin with purple glitter. My niece freaked out when she saw the cajon. Then I told her to keep looking and she saw that unicorn inlay, then she found out I built it. She tackled me and gave me the biggest hug. My niece is really special to me as I'm also her godfather. Two weeks ago she told me I was her most favorite person in the whole world because I encourage her musical passion, I teach her things on the guitar, and make her laugh. My only dislike was not having the time to do dovetails for the box case, I went with dominoes in the essence of time. It's got fantastic sound, snare wires on the front skin. It has an amazing range of sound and superb depth.
Chet
That looks super Tom. I would imagine she will get miles of use out of it. You did good.

wtnhighlander
Super cool, Tom! Are there specific dimensions for these things to produce a tone, or are they somewhat free-form?
Tom Cancelleri
Super cool, Tom! Are there specific dimensions for these things to produce a tone, or are they somewhat free-form? The bigger the box the deeper the sound. They are usually 12x12x17 Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Woodenskye
I don't know much about drums, but that inlay is freaking awesome Tom!
lewisc
Looks great! Do you have any photos of the snare setup? I made one of these out of solid timber (using screws and timber plugs) and a few out of ply. I never got round to working out an adjustable snare. I made one of these out of solid timber (using screws and timber plugs) and a few out of ply. I never got round to working out an adjustable snare. I didn't do an adjustable snare for time reasons. I did fixed snare on one side, no snare on the other. I did design an adjustable snare that could turn on and off, but wasn't worth the effort to implement Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
lewisc
So you've got the tapas on both sides?
Tom Cancelleri
So you've got the tapas on both sides? Yep. It has a sound hole on the side. Very deep sound with bright rim and snare. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
