Popular Post gee-dub
A mention was made about clamping to machine tables that were cast or stamped with hollow places underneath. I have some stamped saw horses I use that use a "U" channel for the horizontal beam. This makes clamping a pain. If used some rare earth magnets that I picked up on the cheap at Harbor Freight. You can use whatever you may have; damaged magnets, scratched magnets, magnets scrounged out of hard drives; whatever. You can see the upside down "U" channel here: I recess the magnets so they are just a hair below the surface since I will be clamping on the block: (wow, nice pic) The laminated block of ply was a larger blank. I drum-sanded it to the right thickness and then sliced it into four blocks. It fits the saw horses just right. Now you can clamp away. Of course everything in your shop will be a different depth of cavity but, the blocks do not have to fit perfect, they just have to be thicker than the cavity is deep. I use them here . . . and here . . . and here . . . Hope this helps someone out.

Marmotjr
I like it. I've been using blocks like this for a while, but I wish I had a third hand to hold them in place as I set the clamp. I'll have to make me a few of these.
Coop
I just noticed the ply wood protectors in the 4th pic. Both great ideas.
bleedinblue
I was the inspiration for this tip. It's not often that this forum saves me money...but this tip was in part to talk me out of buying a bandsaw fence. Tonight I was talked out of buying Carter guides. It's almost like the Forum just made me $300. Score!
