Popular Post Marmotjr
Doing up a box for a birthday gift (day after xmas ). Was having a hell of a time getting the box to stay square the dry run. Coulda used some spring clamps from work, but that'd put gouges in the face, and I don't want that. After bemoaning the lack of strap clamps that are on my xmas list, I came up with this solution. Some rabbeted cauls I had saved from another project, and voila! It really helped I had 3 cords that were easy to put on, but still afforded adequate pressure. So if you're in a pinch for clamps, off the beaten path sometimes works too. 8
wdwerker
Quite creative ! Rope, surgical tubing ya use what's at hand. I have bandsawn corner blocks to use clamps diagonally when trying to square up a case before the glue sets. Measuring corner to corner until the numbers match.
mat60
I like it when people come up with ideas to get the job done because they don't have what they need on hand or sometimes as a way to save funds. Nice box. It will be a great gift.

I'm hoping so, the top is really nicely figured tiger maple, and the is cherry, with almost a burl swirl across the face and sides. I managed to almost get continuous grain across the faces. Been sitting on this board for while waiting for the right project. Walnut splines for accent on the box and lid.
RichardA
Normally, I would have a politically incorrect way of saying how you accomplished that clamping. But I've been advised that saying that will get me removed from here. Nicely done on the fly!
gee-dub
Well done. I have a 10' length of surgical tubing I use in much the same way. Very handy.
Rapid Roger
I know that they are very rare but if you should come across an inter-tube KEEP IT ! They used to be common on cars and trucks but, not so much anymore. Now they can be found on bicycles, wheel barrows, lawn mowers etc. When cut just right, they make great oversized rubber bands which converts to "clamps". I have a drawer full that I've collected over the years.
