mtairymd
This is a very easy project to make for attracting bluebirds to your yard. I wanted to reuse some of the wood I have from with the pallets I broke apart last year. This project uses a combination of industrial strength pallets made from 2x6s and standard pallets which provide slats in the 3/8" to 1/2" thick range. As for the house, I tried to hit the basic bluebird birdhouse dimensions for this build: Hole Entry Size: 1.5" Hole Distance Above Floor: 6" to 7" Floor Dimensions: 4"x 4" to 5" x 5" Feel free to leave the birdhouse exterior to weather unfinished or stain/paint it. I finished the house with a combination of stain for the bottom and sides and green paint for the roof. Cut the board 2x6 to length French Curve for the shape Shape to cutout (x2) Use Jig or Band Saw Front, Back & Bottom Entry Hole Pallet Slats for Roof Dark Cherry Stain for Front, Back & Bottom. Roof painted. Note that bottom is held on with screws and fender washers - it's removable for cleaning. Eye Hooks 1/4" Rope Thanks for Viewing!
wdwerker
Nice looking birdhouse ! These are great projects for pallet wood. Everything I have ever read emphasized that bluebirds are as fussy about the location as the dimensions of the birdhouses they will use. So read up before building & hanging/mounting bluebird houses if you want to attract them.

Actually, I did a little research. I tried to hit all the requirements specified by the bird experts although this size works for multiple other birds. I guess it's first come, first served! wdwerker
I found what made me mention the bluebirds fussiness. http://www.nabluebirdsociety.org/PDF/NABSFactsheetGettingStarted.pdf They mention mounting the boxes on poles at a certain height near open areas. Yeah, location is going to be the toughest part. We have a few hawks in the treeline that enjoy picking off the smaller pray. 1 hour ago, pkinneb said: Nice! rarefish383
Hey neighbor, I'm off Prospect, just outside of town. I like Blue Bird houses too. Here's one I made from old Oak fence boards. I like to leave them the natural grayed out color, or make a couple passes through the planer just to clean them up. My Mother in Law wanted one "finished" so I took this one down to "Pretty Oak", Joe.
rarefish383
Oh, a month or so ago my wife looked out the kitchen window and there were 3 Blue Birds sitting on the gutter of our family room. I thought they migrated, so I did a search. It said some do stay in town and become residents. If so they need extra food. It said they like meal worms best, but they were a bit pricey. The first big bag of wild bird seed had the Blue Bird first on the list. So, I've been feeding them. I have about 15 showing up almost daily, plus Cardinals, Blue Jays, Chickadees, and squirrels, Joe.

I was bored while my mother-in-law was visiting over Christmas. She said she liked bluebirds so I made it and then called it a bluebird house :). I did follow the main specs (width, depth, height & hole size) I found online but I don't think we've attracted a blue bird yet. We have multiple bird feeders on our deck so every other type of bird is flying around.
