Popular Post Tom King
Too far for four sheets of T111. I'd want to pick them anyway, to stay away from footballs and beat up edges. I'm a bit worried that they will stop carrying the pre-primed, since it's not listed as available at my store online, but they have been carrying it so there is probably still some there. It saved an extra step on the other pieces. SIL may be coming in a few days. If so, she and Pam can handle my Mother so I can make a quick run out. I have some sheets of the smooth surface with V-joints every 8" that is supposed to be exterior siding. I had to buy a bundle to get what I wanted when I built an addition on our house, and there is still a pile of it up in the loft of the barn. I used it inside the house. I'd rather use plywood though. That stuff is like some sort of Masonite, or hardboard base. I don't want to have to redo it in 20 years because I'll be 92 then. I feel like the plywood with SW Emerald on it will outlast me.
Popular Post Tom King
Finally was able to get back on this. BIL and SIL came to spend some time here. BIL went after the materials, and this afternoon we cut all the pieces to fit, and primed them. With any good luck, we might finish tomorrow. I'll be glad to be able to use this building again. With the scaffolding up, I can only open a door enough to squeeze in, so it's hard to get anything done with all the tools in there. For any job, you need a comfortable platform to work off of. This has been the plan all along. I had left the workbench plank to set this stage off of. The first piece was the most complicated, but fit perfectly. We're going to paint them before putting the pieces up. I don't really want to be doing much painting up on the scaffolding since it would be too much trouble to mask everything off to do any spraying. I'm not going to take time to extend the overhang now. Too much other important stuff to work on, but I need access to the tools in this building.
Popular Post Tom King
We finished painting the T1-11 panels yesterday, and put them up this morning. Hopefully, we'll get the trim boards up this afternoon, and be able to take the scaffolding down. It's more work than it looks like for a couple of 72 year olds. I had to buy some more paint yesterday at Sherwin Williams. They have an Emerald version now called Rain Refresh that's supposed to stay clean just from rain. At 25% off, it was still the first time I've paid a hundred bucks a gallon for house paint, but I trust their chemistry, so got the best they had.
BonPacific
Looking good. I'm a sucker for the classic red and white.
Coop
Looking darn good Tom. A little late now but you can get a Sherrington Williams contractors account and get a considerable discount on their paint. I just told them I had a couple of rent houses to keep up and no tax id number was required.
Tom King
I've had a Pro account with them for at least 40 years. I'm probably one of their oldest accounts still active at that store, I would imagine. This was with whatever discount there was. $92.48 for a gallon of Emerald Rain Refresh plus tax. Sometimes they tack on whatever the current sale is on top of the pro discount, but there was a new girl working there, and I had called the order in for a quick trip to town and back. I might have done better if it was one of the guys I knew and gone in the store to place the order, but I don't have the luxury of Any extra time away from home these days. The Sun was pretty hot up there by 2 this afternoon so we called it for the day, but we got the trim boards up, and any painting touchup done. We hope to have the scaffolding down before the rain gets here late morning tomorrow.
Coop
I think it’s pretty much discretionary. On a recent visit,I got 2 gallons of interior paint and gave the mgr my name and he gave me 50% off. I needed 2 gallons more of the same paint but a different color and they gave me 10% off until I showed them the receipt from the first purchase and they gave me the same discount. Locations may vary.
Tom King
Yeah, I'm sure it's who waits on me in the store. I had to make a mad dash to town and back though, so no luxury of extra time to do anything but grab and go.
Popular Post Tom King
We were able to get the scaffolding down and put away just as it started raining. I still need to put the corner boards up, and paint the one board over the doors, but I can do those small jobs off of platform ladders. It was Much easier handling the scaffolding with a helper. At least it's not an embarrassing eyesore any more, and the doors are easy to operate safely.
