Indy Cindy
I really like the look of sandblasted ash, but I don't have a blast cabinet nor do I have room for one. So I tried using a wire wheel brush on an ash sphere I just made and I am very pleased with the result. I rotated the sphere slowly on the lathe and spun the brush the opposite direction using a drill. I was surprised at how quickly it worked.

wdwerker
Great look! I really like ash dyed black with a clear topcoat. The grain patterns show up amazing.

Indy Cindy
Thanks guys. Yes, this is sized for croquet but I'm not sure I want to get it banged up. Of course that could be another aging technique. Steve, I like the darkened look too. I have a bunch of ash to work with and plan to try a couple of different techniques, leather dye and torching. I also want to go light and try bleach, too.
Byrdie
Very nice Cindy. Nice job of developing your own approach to a more complex project, Also fun watching the level of restraint you bring out in our group of woodworkers ...
