Freddie
I thought it would be fun for people to submit either a hand drawn, or sketch up model of the most ridiculous joinery you can come up with in your crazy heads. Be creative, nuts, and just have fun. Lets see if we can make a good thread out of this.
Freddie
This is all my brilliant mind could come up with at this time. If we are lucky, we could invent a new joint with this thread!
RichardA
Freddie, you're almost fretless.... That's a dromedary joke!
TerryMcK
The first one shall have to be called a "sliding lock jigsaw joint" You know that you are going to get all sort of rude silhouette shapes now Fred!
wouldwurker
You know that you are going to get all sort of rude silhouette shapes now Fred! Ah yes, the most traditional of all 'joinery'
Freddie
So far i see no submissions. You guys disappoint me.
wouldwurker
Freddie. This bit of joinery relies solely on opposing forces. They say it's the strongest of all table apron joints. Only works in Long Island though.

Coop
BUTT Joint! That's going to require a Dutchman/butterfly to support that crack.

wdwerker
I can't draw it but I have seen a 2" square block about 6" long out of cherry and walnut. There is a single dovetail on each face , sounds impossible but yet it can be done.
wouldwurker
Each face as in all 6 sides of the cube?
wdwerker
Just the 4 long faces 2" x 3" cherry with tails joined to the walnut below.
wtnhighlander
Seen that, it is an illusion, sort of. You just have to think differently about how a dovetail can slide together.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=6mTAVOmsAoaqgwT0tYKoCw&url=http://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Dxg1J3tdfUFY&ved=0CB4QyCkwAA&usg=AFQjCNFFTEZ0y97ouU0ljbZWevxC74IpEw&sig2=GyChDqn3RjcACElyxsdcfg

davewyo
I'm told that these are rice containers made in China. The two go on a yoke and are put over the shoulders of an ox. http:// This is the stand (angled through tenons with wedges): http:// The "bowl" is coopered. Each stave is curved and comes to a point. Near the point there is a ridge for the metal band. http://
wdwerker
That's a piss poor execution of the 4 side dovetail joint I was talking about. It gets the idea across but so poorly done ! Using contrasting woods and some patience to shave the dovetails and get a close fit will yeild a conversation piece to stump those not in the know. Make a few, glue one up and keep the unglued one concealed if you decide to share the secret ?
