Brendon_t
I know quite a few people run this band saw and have heard that it doesn't actually accommodate a 3/4" resaw blade well. Someone told me 1/2" is really the biggest it will go. For the owners, what size and brand blades have you found the saw to like? I'm looking to get a blade for resawing hardwood and a general purpose blade for every day cuts and gentle curves. Thanks.
Dave H
I have the 555, I have the riser block and, use a 1/2" 3tpi deep gullet blade no problems resawing hardwood on my saw.
Dave H
I just checked since I've never used a 3/4 blade I never paid attention but the griz 555 takes a 3/4 blade here's the specs from the griz web site. Specifications: Motor: 1 HP, 110V/220V, single-phase, TEFC, 1725 RPM, prewired 110V Amps: 11A at 110V, 5.5A at 220V Table size: 14" x 14" x 1-1/2" Table tilt: 45° right, 10° left Floor to table height: 43" Cutting capacity/throat: 13-1/2" Maximum cutting height: 6" Blade size: 93-1/2" (1/8" to 3/4" wide) Blade speed: 1800, 3100 FPM Overall dimensions: 27" wide x 67-1/4" high x 30" deep Approximate shipping weight: 246 lbs
dwacker
3/4" is to much blade for that saw anyways a good half inch and a smaller one or two is plenty.
estesbubba
Stick with 1/2 and you'll be fine. Just because it will take a 3/4" it probably won't tension it properly. I like Lenox blades that I get made locally. Cheaper and better than Timberwolves IMO.
Tom Cancelleri
Woodslicer 1/2" would be good. Lenox blades are good if you can find a place locally to weld some for you. I've used Timberwolf blades without any trouble. I had one that was bad and I called suffolk machinery (the makers, and where I bought it from) and they shipped me a new blade. Brendon_t
So everybody seems to be in agreement then. 3/4 is too much blade for the machine even though it could technically spin it.
Tom Cancelleri
3/4 isn't needed. I feel the wheels aren't wide enough to properly support a 3/4 blade. While you could properly tension a low tension blade like a timberwolf blade, you don't need it for the cuts you're gonna do. 1/2" or 5/8" blade is plenty. You're not resawing thousands of feet a day.
cabinfever
+1 on the Woodslicer (I have the 555 saw)
Woodenskye
1/2" wood slicer. Works well
dwacker
The saw may handle a 3/4 just fine. You don't have the power to feed at a rate that warrants a 3/4" blade. 1/2" is a happy medium, just stiff enough to resaw slowly and isn't going to flex like a 1/4" blade. mikem
Actually, all I have ever resawed with is a 1/4" blade. I don't have a rise block, but have resawed up to the max 6" without issue. If you have a riser block I do recommend getting a 1/2" blade. The blade on my G0555P is a Timberwolf 6TPI 1/4" blade. trz
Anyone have a ballpark figure what you might expect to pay for a 1/2" wood slicer for that

Jeff Ellis
+1 on the 1/2" on the 555. They resaw beautifully with that machine.
