bgreenb
Looks beautiful. What finish did you use?
davewyo
generous soaking of Watco Teak Oil Finish, wipe off after 20 minutes (re-wipe as needed) more than a week of drying, probably 10-12 days somewhere near ten coats of Deft rattle-can lacquer (gloss), with the last coat being satin sanded between coats, starting at 320 after the first few coats, and working up to 600-
Coop
Nothing simple about that! Pretty cool! The design and construction and, Ohhhhh, that wood! Good job. Is the darker wood inlay or laminated?
davewyo
Thanks Coop! It's inlayed. I know that the solid wood of the lid will blow out the miters (eventually). I've been working on a couple of gift boxes that need to be shipped off to vastly different environments than where I'm making them. Rather than what I did here I'm hoping to make them to last. I like the look of the solid lid though. I should be using veneer on something stable if I'm going to make them this way, but...maybe later.
