..Kev
I don't disagree. I just want to do incremental steps instead of leaps when the materials are running $500. Fair enough
shaneymack
Finally got a few hours of shop time in! All rails complete. Dadoes and rabbets and tenons El hauncho; Rounding them all with chisel; Time to test; Like a glove. A sexy glove made of wood Really fun build so far. Was going to use the domino for joinery and just couldn't resist making those haunched tenons way too much fun!
Tom Cancelleri
Those tenons look well executed. Nicely done. Those FS Quick Clamps from Festool are awesome in T-Track.

The quick clamp setup in the t track is serving me really well. So far i dont miss my old vice. Their may be limitations to this setup but i havent yet come across any. shaneymack
What size track will those clamps work in? I have a couple sticks of track laying around... Here is the link to the tracks i bought. They work great with the festool clamps.http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=61646&cat=1,43455,61995&ap=

shaneymack
Working in the rail templates, realised i need to get a drawing bow. Did it the old fashioned way; Roughed out the curved on the new 1412 A little shave a la spoke and some flex sanding; Transferred to rail. Roughed out on 1412; Slapped it in my pattern jig, template down first followed by rail. Used this awesome sheer cutting pattern bit made by dimar. Secong best to the big daddy and 1/3 the price. One rail finished. Not the best grain on this one. Its the back rail.

wouldwurker
I came in a few days late. That haunched tenon is sweet...very well executed. Is that a fully extended bottom bearing pattern bit in the RT? Do they not make a movable bearing or flush trim bit?
wdwerker
They make bearing over, bearing under and bearing top and bot.

Is that a fully extended bottom bearing pattern bit in the RT? Do they not make a movable bearing or flush trim bit? Thanks! They probably do but its not what i wanted. I wanted the big daddy bit that they sell at the william ng school which is basically this but more badass. Its also 130$ u.s. By the time i get it here it will cost me over 200$. With the sled im using to rout the piece its not a safety concern my hands are behind both clamps. Edit : that bit only cost me 50$
shaneymack
That whole bit out of the RT looks terrifying. It is a little scary. I would not use it like that without the sled. Its a beast. 2" of cutter on it!!
wdwerker
I use one of these to make a bit set up like that safer. http://www.amazon.com/Safety-Arched-Featherboard-Peachtree-woodworking/dp/B004061ZEK

My hands are on the back of the clamps when i rout. I feel pretty safe using it. Always open to opinions and learn new methods. Do you think it looks unsafe? wdwerker
I would use some sort of shield over the bit just to keep chips from flying up into my face, or wear a face shield . Your hands look to be in a safe location.

Always open to opinions and learn new methods. Do you think it looks unsafe? You're all good. I pattern route like that all the time. Obviously the less bit you have sticking out the better and ideally you'd use a shorter one, but with your sled I think it's fine.

wtnhighlander
It might pay to have a small guard directly above that ginormous bit, just to trap it, should you ever fail to tighten the collet well enough.

Ya i have a few attachements for my fence. I will play around with it next time i set it up. I finished all the rails today. A massive router bit to the face would be a bad day in the shop....
