wdwerker
I-85 just North of downtown is a raised section of Expressway. The were storing huge rolls of plastic pipe ( used for buried utilities ) underneath the bridge and they caught on fire. The heat must have cracked the concrete beams and collums are cracked so bad you can see the rebar. The mayor sent 2 huge foam cannon fire trucks from the airport to put the fire out. No one died and it's not going to affect me or my shop but that section will be closed for Months ! It's near the Marta train yard, Piedmont Rd, and Monroe drive if anyone is looking for the satellite view of the area.
wtnhighlander
I've driven that section of highway many times. Glad no one died. Can't see how this will make traffic any worse.
wdwerker
3 major freeways go through the middle of Atlanta , so 6 sections in and out. Now down to 5 . Rush hour on the surface streets in that area is going to be a nightmare.
Coop
Just saw it on the news. Not pretty
TerryMcK
Just saw it over here on the news. Glad no injuries but that road being closed for months is going to be bad for traffic. We had a massive hole in a section of major motorway (a freeway) that runs through the local city center here appear due to a Victorian sewer under it collapsing. The road was was closed for 18 months and it caused major disruption.
wtnhighlander
Sorry, the sarcasm wasn't loud enough in my previous post. Certainly, traffic will suffer. It just stank out loud, already.
Joshua Luther
This should make it a nightmare for people going to the woodworking shows there this weekend. Sent from my VS988 using Tapatalk
wdwerker
Woodworking shows are out near the Perimeter this year. Hopefully there should just be the usual bad traffic !
AJ_Engineer
Very similar incident in California 10 years ago with a tanker truck. Got the bridge re-open in a month. If the Georgia DOT offers enough incentives it will be open soon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacArthur_Maze#2007_I-580_East_Connector_collapse
Mark J
I was about to click the like button on wdwerker's message when I realized that would be kind of inappropriate. We need a "that sucks" button. For bad news.
Popular Post Tom King
Glad no one was injured, and sorry for the inconvenience for so many people. I'm also glad that so many people like urban areas. I drove over to check on my next job a few days before I went in for surgery. It's exactly seven miles from my house, on good roads. I might have met 3 or 4 vehicles on the way. One of those was an elderly lady that I knew. She called me that night to apologize for not waving at me because she didn't know it was me, not expecting to see me over that way. A few years ago we did some work for one of my long time clients up near D.C. While we were up there, we ended up doing some work on one of their neighbors houses. The neighbors complained about what I charged, but still paid us. Those people sold the house soon after we finished it, making several hundred thousand dollars on their investment. They've been begging me to come back up there to redo another house for them. Every time I hear from them, they offer more money. The last time they emailed, they were up to a grand more a week. It's still not worth it to me to live in an urban area.

In my mountain town we don't get up in arms about what bathroom someone uses - pretty often there's only one, so we take turns. Back to the OP, it made the news out this way as well, sometime after Werker posted it. Glad no one was hurt, sorry it happened.
