Cygnus A
I am fabricating cabinets for my wife's craftroom. My local supplier has a range of plywood types and I was curious what I should use if I plan to paint these? I am leaning towards frameless construction, which means prepping the edges somehow for paint. Birch? Baltic Birch? Alder? Maple? Something else? Any tips would be appreciated. Chet
I would think the birch would paint pretty nice. Maybe even get the prefinished so you don't have to prime just give it a quick sanding to break the shine.

mat60
I agree. Birch or maple. Best to use domestic plywood for the most part.
wdwerker
The pre finished maple 1 side can be used and then just paint the outside. You can use iron on edgebanding or cut 1/8 to 1/4" solid wood strips and glue them on for frameless construction.

Sawdustdad
From that list of choices, agree birch or maple. Personally, if painting the cabinets, I'd go to MDO and probably not have to do anything to the edges but paint them, saving a bunch of effort.
