RichardA
It's evident, my input is no longer needed. Conventional joinery for a dresser is Mortise and Tenon. Enjoy.
wtnhighlander
That is certainly an interesting dresser design!
Chestnut
If the design you posed is what you plan for oak I'd either do dovetails, box joints or splined or reinforced miters. Dowels would also do an excellent job. Rabbets and dados would hold a very large amount of weight in that configuration provided a back is installed to each box. A butt joint with screws will not offer as much strength as the traditional joinery. Lag screws are foolishly overkill your building furniture not a deck, they would also suffer the same drawback as a screw. Screws will stretch slightly and when the piece is handled the joints may separate slightly causing unsightly gaps. This is where screw failure is not a catastrophic failure but joint separation that causes aesthetic issues.
Leaseman
Pkinneb, point made. That looks very impressive (and heavy). Oak, M/T? What is the length, Width?

Correct. If I recall that was built off a design in Woodsmith from many years ago I would guess circa 2006 ish. 65" by 20" deep
