Popular Post Mark J
By the way, the thread title is "shevehorse". Is that an alternate spelling for shavehorse, or a typo?
Popular Post pkinneb
Time to attach the leather tp SH head components and while I'm at it attach the crubber to the high vise. After taping things off I prepped the hide glue Then a light coat on each piece and clamp the leather, the crubber was fine without clamps and once it was tacky enough to not slip around I reassembled the vise and spun the head tight. On the SH head I cut 45 cauls to get the leather tight in the grooves. Clamp for the roller With that done it was time for final assembly Then I started on the milk paint not sure about this color...but we shall see Not as bad once dry with the black and oil finish top coat it may look ok... Should be done this week. When it is I'll post the final pics and the bloopers and blunders as promised. Yeah that poop brown milk paint may just make it into the later lol

Chestnut
That seat color is great. I really like how it looks with the ash that you used. So this is going in the basement on display as a high end replica of an antique? No way something that nice should be used for woodworking .
Popular Post pkinneb
As promised here are all my Bloopers and Blunders on this project. After 45 years of wood working I finally stopped pointing out my errors to folks but in the off chance that I can save someone on here the hassle of fixing something here goes. First up lets drop the head cover plate on the floor and break it and the second time using a domino...(glue let loose the first time I didn't drop it twice LOL) Ran out of stock and had to glue up the head...that looks like crap! So lets fix it with a quick bevel. I went all the way to the line and it blended it quite well Next up I ran out of wood and still needed a foot plate so I glued up scraps hopefully this hold up over time. can't hardly tell on the finished piece Next I had a Shaper placement issue but had enough wood to recover by cutting a new hole Next mistake was on the head roller I made it too wide and I needed a way to cut 1/16" off for it to fit the head so I made jig to cut it at the BS with a stop block so I didn't go to far, then cleaned it up with a chisel. Lastly I placed my signature right where the seat riser goes...facepalm. This was an easy fix cut it again and the first got covered by the riser. FWIW the 3rd one at the bottom left was just a test. That's all! Thanks again for following along!
