bradleyheathhays
I need to cut this squarish hole out of this 1/8" steel plate and the best tool I've got to do it with is a 4 1/2" cut wheel. The white square in the picture is 1 sq in so you can see how my big cut wheel isn't quite nimble enough for the job. If I drilled the corners is there any kind of jig saw blade that would do it? Or maybe some kind of oscillating tool blade? I've got an oscillator but I haven't used it to cut metal yet.
Coop
I would try what you suggested and use the drill and jig saw with a/some quality fine tooth blades like Bosch. And a file to clean up the corners.
Tom King
Sit the jig saw to no orbit.
pkinneb
I'm with @Coop drill holes and jigsaw with a metal blade. I don't think an oscillating tool would do it but I could be wrong.
wtnhighlander
There are blades for the oscillator that will work, but the jigsaw will be easier to keep straight.
Tpt life
I use friable circular saw blades to hog as much as possible before going to any kind of recip. Much faster.
Mark J
You can run the jigsaw's shoe along a straight edge to act as a guide.
legenddc
Buy a few blades. If a blade jumps they tend to get bent and ruined. Cutting such a flat panel you should be able to avoid that but might as well have an extra.
bradleyheathhays
Thanks for the advice everybody. I'm taking all of it. Not sure if I've heard of a friable saw blade though. Did a search and nothing definitive came up.

Milwaukee 5 Pack - 7 Inch Cut Off Blades for 7.25"+ Circular Saws - Aggressive Cutting for Metal & Stainless Steel - 7" x .09 x 5/8-Inch https://a.co/d/gHdJm1F This type of blade is what I mean. They wear down as they cut, so you always have sharp-ish media to cut with.
