Yep. I got a half-dozen more unreported spammers while cleaning up those you reported. :(

And they're still coming in; thanks for taking care of these!

Boy they are bad this morning. My observation is they are using more accounts than usual, with just a few postings per account.

Question for the Mods

Some mornings, I'll wake up and start reporting the endless spam posts, one by one.

Is this helpful at all, or does it not matter. I've noticed that they disappear real quick as soon as a moderator is on line. So thank. You all for that.

I may see a dozen or more spam posts but typically only report one, figuring y'all will see them anyway.  Being a mod on so many other forums it's just in my nature to spot spam, so since I can't do anything about it here a report is in order. :D

Thanks folks. I didn't know if i was wasting my time reporting every single one. I'll leave the obvious temu ones to you and keep an eye out for the less obvious. Thanks again, it's a thankless job you do.

Based on prior conversations with the mods in this thread I try and report each spammer at least once. I don't try to report each spam post.

Absolutely, what Chip said. If three members report the same user, it gets blocked from further posts,so please don't give up!

What if a single member were to report three different posts from a particular user, would that user be blocked?

@Mark J, they way I read the forms, I believe it means of a user account gets 3 'strikes', they are blocked from posting until mods take action. I don't think it matters if those strikes are 3 other members reporting against one post, or one member reporting 3 posts, or any combination.

I don't know if this is possible, or if it would help.  I'm wondering if we could require a new members first 5 posts to be no more frequent than, say, an hour apart.

Another thought, temporarily block any new member if an existing member reports any of the first few posts.

It looks to me like any new membership applicants need a set of human eyes applied before being allowed to post anything. Apparently the signup is automatic enough that bots and spammers have an easy path to the forum.

On the other forums I admin the first 10 posts automatically go into moderation if they contain links or photos.  Seems like one of them the number is 5, but either way a mod/admin sets eyes on it before making it to the public forum.  It's usually no more than a couple of hours before we see it and approve/spam clean/reject.
