I like your lamp idea and I think it is best to focus on projects like that, meaning ones that are portable and could move when you move. If you ever sold the house lots of times the first thing new owners do is change things that aren't exactly their taste. Can you imagine making that front door (which I think is fabulous) and driving by the house and seeing that the new owners have painted over it?!
