Popular Post Mick S
Looking through some older project pix. I made this for a good friend's kids a few years ago. I modified some plans that have been sold for years. I laminated 3 layers for the body with the middle layer hollow to use as the piggy bank. The trap door belly opens to get to the $$.The saddle can be removed to access the $$ slot.Hard at play!Fun project!Mick
davewyo
That's really neat.I would have to say it's an heirloom item; to be passed down the generations.

wtnhighlander
That's really cool! Saddle looks like its held on with magnets, but what holds the trap door closed?,

Mick S
That's really cool! Saddle looks like its held on with magnets, but what holds the trap door closed?, Thanks for the kind words. The saddle is held by gravity and is captured between the neck and hips to keep from sliding. The white inserts are furniture glides to make it easier to take off. The trap door is held by magnets. Popular Post Mick S
That's awesome! How did you do the ears? They look like they came from the same piece of wood. Thanks, TIODS. I had a lot of fun making this one. The ears are leather. I guess I just got lucky on the color - I went to Tandy and picked the closest I could find from the scrap bin. They're epoxied in place with a dowel "plug" driven into the hole to secure them in place. This project made me add another to the bucket list - a full sized version for adults. I think it would be a great way to blow off steam after work.
