Chet
That is really cool. I am curious, is it capable of holding water or is it to be used with just dried or artificial flowers.
chrisphr
It might hold water but not for very long. . It is more for dried/artificial flowers, or simply without any adornment. Interesting question though, is it possible to make a wood vase that can hold water? I made this like a bandsaw box, but if I were making to hold water I might have drilled the opening with a Forstner bit then coated internals with epoxy. Any other way it could be done? wtnhighlander
Make it like a barrel, they hold water just fine. Unless they dry out.
Rapid Roger
I've made a few wooden vases on the scroll saw. Yes you can make a wooden vase hold water if you coat the inside with fiberglass resin after it is built. I bought some "bondo" (made by 3M) resin at Lowe's, mixed some up with the hardener, poured it into the vase, rolled it around to cover the bottom and the sides and poured out the excess and let it harden. It might not look real good inside but who cares about that? I suppose you could coat the outside also if you can get a nice smooth job. wdwerker
A guy at the Renaissance festival coats the inside of leather mugs with melted parrafin wax. Since a vase is usually just holding a few inches of water that might work.
Garage CoffeeRoaster
A glass/plastic/ceramic round vase that is straight could also be inserted inside the vase to hold the water
