N00b-in-training
Today marked day 1 of my transition from a makeshift corner of a 3 car garage with makeshift 'tool' to my own walled off 11x22 shop. I've spent months selecting my tools and most ordered over the next two months. Shop layout: The major tools include: Table Saw - Grizzly G0690 Jointer - Grizzly 8" G0656 Planer - Dewalt 735 Bandsaw - Laguna 14|Twelve Router - PC 75182 - undecided on table/fence/etc Miter Saw - Bosch GCM12SD Dust Collection - DC-1200VX-BK1 with 6"/4" PVC pipe with Grizzly Air Cleaner Day 1 of the shop build included 13' tall wall put up and drywall'd. Next week brings taping/mudding and lighting installed. Following will be floor etching/staining/sealing. I strongly considered installing a wood floor but decided the $1000 it would cost would be better spent on tools.
shaneymack
Good for you! Regardless of size, its always nice to have non shared dedicated space. Keep the pics coming!

Jfitz
Very nice, and good luck! That's a good list of tools. I hope there's still room in the budge for assorted hand tools and do-dads as well.
N00b-in-training
Woke up today thinking about one of my biggest challenges... getting the shop into usable form, vs exactly how I want it, in order to make at least one of the projects on my wife's list. Something tells me she's not going to be accepting of waiting a year to get anything out of it.
wtnhighlander
Focus on getting it workable for now. No matter how much you plan the 'perfect' shop layout, you'll find a reason to change it during the first project you build. And probably every project thereafter. FtrPilot
I am jealous. I am stuck in my 2 car garage until I move, which ain't gonna happen. Or until the Dow hits 200K, which ain't gonna happen in my lifetime. I look forward to pics of your finished setup.

The best way to figure out exactly what goes where is to build a project or two! Congrats on the dedicated space!
Brendon_t
Im constantly moving things around in my little space. I found that the rough milling tools stay together, everything else could change depending on the process for that project.
N00b-in-training
Shop build weekend 2 included finishing drywall, painting, hanging lights and starting other electrical. Biggest 'OH CRAP!' moment occurred when i realized the metal blast gates (4" Woodstock) do not fit 4" SD PVC. How could I have missed this in the 3 months of research that went into my shop planning. Gruff! Anyone else using metal blast gates with S&D PVC? I'm going to take one of the blast gates to Home Depot tomorrow to see if it fits Sch 40 PVC... N00b-in-training
Thank PB. Which blast gate manufacturer are you using? I stopped in HD this morning and the Woodstock blast gates fit perfectly in Sch 40 pipe. Sending them back to my friends at Amazon today. They came from a local Woodcraft.
N00b-in-training
Well. I stopped at Woodcraft on my way home and their blast gates are the same as mine. I must have bought non-standard S&D pipe. Here's to hoping the local supply place will return all of the 6 and 4 inch plus fittings I bought. Immortan D
You probably got the thicker SDR-26 instead of SDR-35. They both have the same outer diameter, but the inner diameter is smaller in the SDR-26.
N00b-in-training
It's ATSM D-2729. The inner diameter is a good 1/16th larger than the blast gate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Immortan D
A tight fit won't leave space for glue or silicon or whatever is applied inside those joints. But I don't know if 1/16'' is good or bad.
Eric.
I like the self-cleaning ones from Lee Valley. They fit into 4" S&D. http://www.leevalley.com/US/Wood/page.aspx?p=51506&cat=1,42401,62597
N00b-in-training
Making progress as I enter weekend #3. Goal for the weekend - finish ductwork, electrical and get floor prepped to be stained. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RichardA
Did you get Festool to supply the pipe?
N00b-in-training
Haha. No, long story on my pipe that'll do a write up on during non-peak shop working time - aka not the weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
estesbubba
Coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing what you do to the floor.
Brendon_t
Definitely coming along. How high are your ceilings in there? It looks like your air cleaner is a hundred feet up there.
