..Kev
I routed it all away, it went 1/4" passed the line. There's no damage, it was all in waste material luckily. Very cool! It didn't look like much.
Tom Cancelleri
Per bench crafted's plan that cavity can be up to 17 5/8" long for maximum vise travel.
Tom Cancelleri
Just glued up some cherry for the end cap.
Tom Cancelleri
Vise cavity done. Had to chisel out the last 1/4"lip, router bit wouldn't get close enough to the wall. Didn't want to damage it. 3/8 cutter on 1/2" shank doesn't work well for up close and personal. Order a 2"cl 1/2"cd Whiteside bit also. Greenaqua
Very exciting to get the hardware and with the pace that you are going it won't be long before you need it!
Tom Cancelleri
I'll be ready for the tail vise over the weekend if not a bit sooner. I need to do the dog hole strip. Cherry end cap out out the clamps and resawed on the bandsaw for closer to needed thickness
Tom Cancelleri
Perfect fitting end cap, it's nice and snug. One of the best fitting mortise and tenon joints I've done. The right tools make the difference.

Tom Cancelleri
I'm scared to know what the fun part is.. The fun part is not gonna be the barrel nut installation, however the routing of the bench dog strip will be funnish. The condor tails will be fun

Tom Cancelleri
Dude, you are just killing this thing! You're making us all look bad, slow down! LOL Looks awesome, by the way. I'm aiming for doghole strip tonight/tomorrow depending on how much energy I have later. Hopefully this weekend I'll get the rest of the wood milled. Would be good to get started on the legs.
Tom Cancelleri
The bottom of the end cap wasn't completely flush with the shoulder. It was about 1/32 off and there was a gap. The shoulder plane fairy paid a visit today. Hit the top shoulder with a few passes, after 35 minutes of honing the edge to polished razor sharp edge. Now that's a good fit!

Tom Cancelleri
Holes and recess for the end cap barrel nuts. So far so good. Made a little straight drilling jig out of some scrap. Drilled perfectly square, all is still really good. and on the third pic, Tom said "let their be error!" I had made a jig for my forstner bits to drill perfect straight, however the jig moved and I didn't see that it was not going into the hole I needed it to. You can see a little recess to the bottom right of the top barrel nut that's about 1/8" deep. Because I'm a perfectionist, and even though it's on the bottom of my slab, and it's just a workbench it will bother me until the day I die. So I plan on putting a piece of maple 7/8" in diameter in that little recess and gluing it and sanding it flush. (Don't judge) The nuts and bolts do line up though, I drilled the barrel nut holes about 3/16" too deep so getting the bolts in requires a bit of finesse to get them threaded. Once they are threaded though it locks nicely.
Tom Cancelleri
Quick trip to the bandsaw, lathe, and miter saw, and I've got a plug to fix that little recess. I'll hit it with the flush cut saw, then drill out where it covers the barrel nut hole, then a bottom bearing flush cut bit to clean it up. I feel better now, and can relax.
