Coop
What is japanning. I don't mean to hj another one, but I know what it is from seeing it, but how does it differ from paint?
Brendon_t
I believe the term means to cover something with a hard black varnish. i believe Europeans coined it trying to mimic Japanese art in furniture.

Guest
I am in finishing hell. I built a 52" round cherry table for my back patio and am going through the epifanes finish schedule. It has had my shop tied up for weeks, so no new favorite tools. two more coats to go!
TerryMcK
When using epifanes my favourite tool is a good brush and can of brush cleaner.
collinb
My favorite tool of all time is not a woodworking tool. (Sorry to disappoint.) Actually, there are two tools that have been important and sometimes even special to me. The first is the electronics breadboard. Plug in a chip, plug in wires. Make it work. Second is the slide rule. Leibnitz' creation of the logarithmic scale changed the world, via Oughtred. It lets you see math. A truly amazing instrument.
