Brendon_t
For the record, I think full blown hand tool milling of rough stock is masochistic BUT, my jointer knives are dull as all getup and my lajp blade is newly sharpened so I too it upon myself to flatten the face and square the edge of a 4'x8" padeuk board. I will admit, there was some serious satisfaction once it was done. .. Btw, ate lunch box planers sweat proof?
Coop
Brendon, did you not sharpen the jointer blades with the jig I sent ya? It made all the difference in the world on mine.

No, remember I stripped two bolts out attempting to relieve the blades from the unit? I couldn't get either out. That thing did work for my planer blades though
jmaichel
Milling stock by hand is no fun at all! If your jointer blades don't get sharpened any time soon you might want to think about making a simple sled for your planer.
Gilgaron
Jointing is super easy! Bevel down vintage #8 take care of it in no time. On the other hand, I would probably use a thickness planer if I had one, but it is good exercise with the scrub and jack.
Llama
Atleast you know you can mill by hand if you have to! Comes in handy with the board you want to use doesn't fit in your machines.
Brendon_t
That's what I'm saying mel.I've always used my hand planes for finesse work. Never for rough work. It is a good feeling to know that if I had to. . I could.
