estesbubba
So my pink foam spray booth has served me well but it might be time for a better solution. On bigger items the current booth and box fan behind isn't enough to pull all the overspray away. I know the ideal solution would be to build a finish room but that isn't going to happen so my current thoughts are a curtain-type solution. The vapor barrier I used for the insulation is fairly think but I would have to find a solution to hang it from the ceiling since it doesn't have grommets - maybe they're easy to install? Putting up and taking down would take a little time but probably not bad. A sliding U-shaped curtain would be really nice but I don't have any clue on prices and good places to buy. Also I have a window at that wall and would like a fan that would work there to pull out the overspray. Finally what would be a good size? 10x10 or bigger? So I'm looking for any ideas, suggestions, websites, etc. I probably should have asked this when Don and HHH were around. Here is my current booth and the area where I put it (the TV's current home is above the window and I cover with fitted sheet when finishing). AceHoleInOne
Poly Tarp Get a grommet kit. Ceiling track Or use pvc pipe and shower curtain rod hooks. Use binder clips to hold the corners together. As far as size goes, start off to what you need. Can always expand. Don't go crazy over thinking this one. -Ace-
Immortan D
Maybe something like this could work: http://makelyhome.com/50-diy-collapsible-spray-paint-tent/

AstroDave
As winter approaches I have been thinking about spray booth options myself. I've been looking at trying to create a collapsible unit similar to this. http://btdgarage.en.made-in-china.com/product/IKBQqsTvLwkf/China-Good-Ventilation-Retractable-Spray-Painting-Room.html https://www.dans-hobbies.com/2009/05/05/collapsible-spray-booth/ http://deeconstructed.com/diy-fold-up-paint-booth/

I think it could be made out of PVC pipes and some ingenuity for less than $200.
danbell78
I went with a set of canvas drop clothes and put grommets on those. A track system would be great, but I don't use often enough for that, I just have hooks on the ceiling to hang the drop clothes. My last set up was with a tarp. I was not a big fan of that as as the finish (typically water based poly for me) built up on the tarp and then would flake off and land on wet finish of course. The canvas doesn't seem to have this problem yet.
Ronn W
My only thought for the day - If you use light material like poly be sure to weight it at the botomm to keep the fan from moving it around on you. Good luck.
Chet
Mike, I am just seeing this. If you got the space would just doing something like this work. Coleman tent Sometimes when you start buying a bunch of parts to make something work you end up close to the same price. This is 13' X 9' and 6' 8" at the center. Bankstick
Watch the Harbor Freight ads- get some tarps for free with purchase or use the discount coupons. I keep a couple for covering my lawn tractor and a couple are kept to cover my fishing stuff in case of rain. Suspend them from the ceiling of the shop. Take them down when not used. BuilderBill
I've used el-cheapo vinyl window shades mounted to the ceiling laid out like your foam panels. Set your box fan/filter on a table and cut the rear shade to fit, tape it to the shade and you're good to go. I don't know what you'd do for the ceiling, mine hung from the lumber rack. AstroDave
I started to build my spray booth and then reality struck. Do I really need a huge booth that I can walk into? Most of the projects I do are small. So after buy everything I needed for a big booth I ended up with this: LOL It will be enclosed in 6mil plastic but the front will be open. The fan is a ~500 CFM squirrel cage fan connect to the downdraft table. Did some smoke tests on it without the plastic enclosure and it truly sucks...good sucks. I will post a video when it's complete. I intend to exhaust outside. I am sure the efficiency will drop once I have it fully plumbed but it should serve it's purpose. It's also simple to break down as I didn't glue the pvc. Hey if it doesn't work I will have a new downdraft sanding table Of course paint filters will go in the cavity above and will install a loose mesh over the motor to keep the filters from getting sucked in. Also considering putting ramps on either side of the fan to encourage airflow...
